Monday, 8/29
Last week, we began target 1.3. We took notes on Wednesday, and then on Thursday we worked on our vocab poster for this unit and began to pinpoint the differences between Distance (scalar - total amount traveled) and Displacement (vector - how far you are away from the starting point, always has a direction). On Friday, we began doing some simple problems that had you calculating the distance and displacement. Today, we will continue to practice with distance and displacement and we will take a short target check about these two topics. Distance vs. Displacement Practice Tuesday, 8/30 We will add 2 new vocab words to our vocab poster. The two new words are Speed (scalar - how fast you're going) and Velocity (vector - how fast you're going in a specific direction). We'll begin some practice problems once we're finished adding to our vocab posters. Wednesday, 8/31 We will all take a practice ACT Science Test today. 40 questions, 35 minutes. After the test, we'll go over it and analyze the ones we missed. Thursday, 9/1 Tonight is open house. Don't forget to tell your parents to come! Today we're going to work more with speed and velocity. Friday, 9/2 Today is a Future Careers Friday! Miranda Woodall from Alltech will be visiting our class today. We're going to do an activity about fermentation, and she's going to discuss the types of jobs available at Alltech.

REMEMBER: The new cell phone policy goes into effect today. If I see your phone, I must take it. Today, we're going to finish the test you started on Monday. If you didn't get the score you wanted on this test, you will have the opportunity to do test corrections in class today. Retakes will take place tomorrow at the beginning of class. If you finish with the test corrections, we're going to start taking notes on Target 1.3, Calculating Speed, Velocity, and Acceleration. Tuesday, 8/23 Today we're going to take a break from Physics and look at the Science ACT. I'm going to go through a PowerPoint that describes the ACT Science Test, and you guys are going to fill in some guided notes. The ACT Science test is important because it contributes to your overall score on the ACT. This will take all of class. Next week, we're going to take a full length practice ACT Science Test. Wednesday, 8/24 We're going to practice calculations relating to distance, displacement, speed, velocity, and acceleration. Thursday, 8/25 We're going to continue practicing with distance, displacement, speed, velocity, and acceleration. Friday, 8/26 We're going to review calculating distance, displacement, speed, velocity, and acceleration. After the review, we'll take notes on Target 1.4, Newton's Laws. We're going to have a test over Target 1.3 on Monday. Monday, 8/15
We're going to take a look at the syllabus for this class, which can be found on the home page, and we're going to take a look at this website. I'm also going to give you your notes packet for Unit 1. The great thing about this class is that you get to use your notes on every test, so it pays to write things down in my class. We'll take notes on Target 1.1 and Target 1.2 today before class is over. Tuesday, 8/16 We're going to practice single step and double step metric conversions using dimensional analysis. You're going to go to the link below and there you'll find a practice paper. You and a partner will share a chrome book and you'll work the problems out on your own sheet of paper. Single and Double Step Conversions Practice Wednesday, 8/17 We're going to spend another day on practicing converting between metric units. If we get it, we'll move on to taking notes over Target 1.3. Mixed Conversions Practice Thursday, 8/18 We'll have a review at the beginning of class over 1.1 and 1.2. We'll take a test over Targets 1.1 and 1.2. I try to break up the unit into small tests so you guys have a better chance of getting good grades. 2-3 targets is way easier to keep up with than a test over 9 at once. Friday, 8/19 We're going to take notes for target 1.3 and do a few practice problems. I should have your tests over 1.1 and 1.2 graded by today. I'll pass them back at the beginning of class so you can see what grade you made. Target 1.3 Practice Vector, Scalar, Distance, Displacement Practice Speed, Velocity, and Acceleration Practice |
